First Impression - The Wow Effect

The first glance upon entering home serves as a kind of welcome.

It creates our first impression of the house, and of those who live in it. We all want this impression to be positive and pleasant – not only for those who come to visit us, but primarily for us, the residents of the house.

Over time and with changes in design styles, the public space in the house has become more open, until today the living room, dining area and kitchen almost become one space. Thus, whoever enters the house enters 'all at once' into the center of things, without a transition or space connecting the outside to the inside, or between the entrance and the rest of the house. Thirty years ago, we called this transition an entrance hall or a corridor. In most cases, it was a small and functional space – the place to hang coats, take off shoes, put down keys, bag, phone, and so on. Therefore, with the opening of the kitchen and dining area to the living room, it was one of the first spaces we gave up, to utilize its area for the sake of the open plan. This is how we found ourselves with a spacious area on the one hand, but also with a feeling that the entrance and exit to the house were a bit "exposed", and that we had no "place to stop" even for a moment.

The need to pause before entering or exiting the house has led in recent years to a renewed focus on demarcating, even partially, the entrance, in order to create a space that connects and mediates between the outside and the inside. A kind of "gatekeeper".

In addition, it has a functional role aimed at organizing all the items we bring with us when we enter the house, or take with us when we go out. From here, personal preferences come into play – do we like the exposed look – where everyday items remain visible (for example: a coat and bag rack, open shelves for keys and wallet), or do we prefer to hide them inside a closet, a drawer or a closed chest of drawers.

Forest dresser frame above which we hung a Saigon wings anthropologist lamp – which focuses attention on the decorative items placed on the dresser: Flora concrete series vases in varying heights. The dresser is also used for storage, so we accessorized it with Tropicana storage boxes. Next to the dresser, we placed a Timeless mirror ladder with shelves – an excellent solution for all the small items in pockets that we don't want to forget. To define the space, we laid out a black Scandi Double Diamond rug on the floor.

With a finger on the pulse // Between city and country

The combination of a fast and hectic pace of life and the desire to stop and rest occasionally, gave rise to an eclectic design style that connects city and country, industrial and rural aesthetics. Inspired by rural homes in Tuscany and Provence, but also by lofts in large city centers, a contrasting and interesting design was created.

The rustic style brings with it a warm, bright color palette, derived from natural materials such as stone, bricks, and earthy tones. Its lines are soft and rounded, and it strives for maximum comfort. In contrast, the warm industrial style is characterized by a dominant and strong color palette, straight lines, and rigid materials such as concrete and steel.

In the picture: The perfect connection between city and country. The Icon Black console is suitable for a small and compact entrance area. The space under the dresser can be used for shoes or bags. On the top shelf, we placed green bottles from the Deco series, a green globe, and a pair of Art Chic Sorrento vases – king and queen. On the shelf below it, we placed a plant  and next to it, two book boxes stacked on top of each other – a great place to put all small items so they are hidden from view
